Our Inspiration

Throughout the world people are creating spaces for people to connect. From laundries with tables, to outdoor libraries. They have one thing in common. They're either in places where people happen to be or need to be, and they all let us talk. No structure, no forced play, just connection. Come and talk you're ready.

Why we built The Open Walls Project

On a beach walk, my son and I stumbled on an outdoor community centre. He wasn't sure, he watched, then sat down to play chess with two men. They didn’t speak the same language — but it didn’t matter. The game gave them a reason to sit, share smiles, and just be together.

It showed me the power of gentle connection and maybe a way to make the world a little less lonely.

That’s what the Open Walls Project is about.
Creating small, human spaces that invite connection.

Get involved

We're starting small

Just a few simple acts to spark connection. A game of chess in a park. The Open Walls Project began here, in Motherwell, because that's our home. But we hope it doesn't end here.
